12th Great-Grandmother was Lady Caroline de Bourgogne

Lady Caroline de Bourgogne-12th Great-Grandmother

My12th Great-Grandmother was Lady Caroline de Bourgogne and yours, if your parent is a child of Moses Jefferson Pearson. She is on Edward Pearson’s (6th Great-Grandfather’s wife’s side of the family in the Moses J. Pearson’s (our grandfather) line. If for example, you’re a second cousin then she’d be your 13th great grandmother.

When Lady Caroline de Bourgogne was born in 1482 in Mayenne, Mayenne, France, her father, Sir, was 22. She had two sons and three daughters with William Ashton Ledbetter. She then married Sir Simon Gilman and they had one son together. She died in 1562 in Beaune, Côte-d’Or, France, having lived a long life of 80 years.

Lady Caroline de Bourgogne was born in 1482 in Mayenne, Mayenne, France, to Sir Richard Lommois de Amiens de Bourgogne, age 22.

Her son Hugh Donnington was born in 1500 in Middlesex, England. Her daughter Maude was born in 1510 in Cheshire, England. Her daughter Katherine was born in 1504 in Thriplow, Cambridgeshire, England. Her son Christopher Ashton was born in 1506 in Buckinghamshire, England. Her daughter Elizabeth Buckler was born in 1520 in Dorset, England.

Lady Caroline de Bourgogne married Sir Simon Gilman in 1524 when she was 42 years old.

Her son Simon was born in 1525 in England.

Her husband Sir Simon passed away in 1543 in Cîteaux, Côte-d’Or, France, at the age of 36. They had been married 19 years.

You wouldn’t happen to be from SE Kansas, would you? My maiden name was Laura Ledbetter. My dad was Warren E. Ledbetter. His parents were James Marvin Ledbetter and Ramona Mae Goddard. James Marvin’s parents were Samuel Johnson Ledbetter and Banda R. Bowman.

She was my 15th great-grandmother, through her son Simon’s daughter Marget and on through the Wightman line when they came to the US. My great grandmother was a Wightman.

Can you share your sources on this? I may also descend from this line, but I am having trouble finding documents to support the line.

I went and found her in my direct lineage, and got to her tree so you wouldn’t have to start where I started at my great grandpa Donald Eugene Ledbetter (I’m a young’un, turning 20 in January 2021). Interestingly enough, her tree shows her being married to some “Humphrey Lewis,” perhaps a third marriage after William and Sir Simon?

Anyway, you can just follow her tree, either from her father’s side or mother’s side. I haven’t explored her maternal tree, but I know the paternal tree has royalty up to Charibert. Doing a bit more research, the royalty continues. I found his father to be Caribert I, who was the son of Chlothachar, grandson of Clovis I. Clovis I’s father was Childeric I, who was the son of Merovech, grandson of Chlodio.

That’s where the legitimate royalty ends, because Chlodio’s father is unknown. The only person that is said to be his father is Pharamond, who is said to be made up, but may also be a real person, as there is only the reference of him in The non-contemporary Liber Historiae Francorum. Pharamond seems to also be the only son of King Marcomir (Marcomer). If Pharamond did indeed exist, this is where the legitimacy ends.

After Marcomer come the bosphoran kings. There is one problem with that though. I could never find a definite birth or death year for Marcomer, but the earliest year I could find was 5 years after the last bosphoran king died.

HOWEVER, since there is such a discrepancy in his lifespan, we can also safely assume that he could have been born before his earliest recorded documentation (also considering this is in the 4th century AD). So if he is in fact King Rhescuporis VI’ son, that leaves a lineage of kings (including the Spartacus line) up to King Archaeanax.
There’s a 240 year gap between Archaeanax and Sandakhshatra, but this is also pre 480 BC, there’s not much that’s been recovered in good condition from that long ago, especially when this was a period of volcanic activity around Greece.

We can follow Sandakhshatra to his father and grandfather, Tugdamme and Teuspa.

Now here’s where things get absolutely crazy. The bosphoran kings were said to descend from Helenus, son of Priam, which can be traced to Laomedon, Ilus, Iris, Eruchthonius, Dardanus, and last but certainly not least, Zeus himself.

That’s too farfetched for me to believe though, especially since there’s around a 1400 year gap between Teuspa and Helenus. Unless the war of troy happened MUCH later than we thought.

Anyway, I urge you to do your own research, who knows what you’ll uncover!

My lineage comes from Winnie Ledbetter daughter of Beverly Ledbetter. I have Beverly, Arthur, William, John, Francis, Henry. From there I am not sure how it connects to Lady Caroline. All help is greatly appreciated.

If Henry was born 1625 and died 1700, (The only henry on my direct lineage list), his father was named Thomas Ledbetter, B. 1600 D. 1665. Thomas’s father was also named Thomas Ledbetter, B. 1586 D. 1618.
Funnily enough, HIS father was named Thomas Ledbetter I, B. 1560 D. 1643.
Thomas I’s father was William Ledbetter, not yet William Ashton but close!!, B. 1543 D. 1563.
      William’s Father was Hugh Donnington Ledbetter, B. 1500 D. 1588.
      Finally we’re brought to William Ashton Ledbetter, B. 1480 D. 1543.

      I hope this helped you!

Hello cousins. Lady Caroline appears to be my 15th great grandmother through the Ledbetter line. Interestingly, it seems Thomas Ledbetter emigrated to Virginia in the 1630s, arriving in Jamestown. Nearly 400 years later, here I am, living a few miles from Jamestown.

This is going to be fun to explain. She is my 15th great-grandmother on my maternal grandmother’s side, but shes not direct. Starting at my grandmother’s 9th great-grandfather (direct ancestor) we go to his wife Elizabeth Flinton. Her grandfather’s name was Farrer Flinton and his mother was Lady Karherine. Her father father William Ashton Ledbetter and mother Caroline.
